Upgrading PHP for LibreNMS on RHEL 9

LibreNMS recently raised its PHP requirement to 8.4 minimum, 8.5 recommended. If you’re still on 8.3 (or older), the web UI will nag you until you upgrade. Here’s how to do it on RHEL 9 using the Remi repository.

  Prerequisites
  #

This assumes Remi is already installed and enabled:

dnf repolist | grep remi

You should see
remi-safe
and
remi-modular
. If not, install it first:

dnf install -y https://rpms.remirepo.net/enterprise/remi-release-9.rpm
subscription-manager repos --enable codeready-builder-for-rhel-9-$(arch)-rpms

  1.

Automated Network Monitoring: Adding Servers to LibreNMS with Ansible
  #

Adding servers to LibreNMS by hand is tedious, and should be done by automation. In this post, I’ll show you how I’ve automated the entire process of configuring SNMP and adding servers to LibreNMS using Ansible.

  The Workflow
  #

Basically what the playbook does is:

Install and configure SNMP

Set up necessary firewall rules

Add the server to LibreNMS

Add it to the correct device group.

  The Playbook
  #

  Step 1: Installing SNMP Components
  #

- name: Ensure snmp is installed
  ansible.builtin.dnf:
    name:
      - net-snmp
      - net-snmp-utils
    state: present

The
net-snmp
package is needed for the SNMP daemon.
